Dr. Vindhya Fernando is also collaborating with this project.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Otter Conservation Project (June 2022)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sign boards were set up to create awareness among the visitors on the existence on the Otter in the Beddagana Wetlalnd Park. Otter footprints were also recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"355\" height=\"442\" src=\"https:\/\/ecoserv.cmb.ac.lk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/image-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ecoserv.cmb.ac.lk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/image-5.png 355w, https:\/\/ecoserv.cmb.ac.lk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/image-5-241x300.png 241w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 355px) 100vw, 355px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Saminda Fernando is carrying out a study on\u00a0<strong>Roosting ecology, morphometric and genetic affinities of Indian flying fox\u00a0<\/strong>in Sri Lanka in collaboration with Prof. Wipula Yapa.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Saminda Fernando studies the aspects of behavioural response of\u00a0<strong>Red-wattled Lapwing in different environmental conditions:<\/strong>\u00a0urban, semi-urban and natural environments.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Saminda Fernando is collaborating a study on\u00a0<strong>Ecology and Conservation of Green-billed Coucal, an Endemic Species of Sri Lanka\u00a0<\/strong>with Mr. Dulan Vidanapathirana\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Mayuri Wijesinghe is co-supervising a project related to the\u00a0<strong>crop raiding behaviour of elephants in Sri Lanka<\/strong>\u00a0with other collaborators Snr Prof. Devaka Weerakoon (Principle Investigator), Dr. Pruthuviraj Fernando &amp; Dr. Sumith Pilapitiya (<em>Chandima Fernando, PhD candidate: Department of Zoology &amp; Environment Sciences, University of Colombo<\/em>).<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Saminda Fernando is co supervising a project on<strong>\u00a0developing a sensor for detecting elephant intrusions<\/strong>\u00a0at boundary villages with Dr. Nuwan Balasuriya.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. H. S. Kathriarachchi is involved in a collaborative research project on\u00a0<strong>establishing species circumscription for Sri Lankan\u00a0<em>Aporosa<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>insight for conservation with Ms. Jayani Nimanthika and Prof. Sisira Ediriweera from Uva Wellassa University, Sri Lanka.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. H. S. Kathriarachchi is involved in assessment and developing\u00a0<strong>species distribution models for potentially valuable native tree species and endemic plant species\u00a0<\/strong>providing insights for their conservation and utilization.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Saminda Fernando is conducting several projects on\u00a0<strong>mobbing behaviour, heavy metal contamination, parasite prevalence and evolutionary aspects of Yellow billed babbler (<em>Turdoides affinis taprobanus<\/em>)\u00a0<\/strong>in Sri Lanka in collaboration with Dr. Vindhya Fernando.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. H. S.
